Report from Saturday, June 26, 2010 – thanks Jared!
The Sooner Republican Assembly (SRA) held its 2010 Endorsing Convention this morning. Twenty-one statewide and local candidates recieved the endorsement of the SRA, which required them to earn 2/3 of the delegates’ votes. Detailed information on the votes is available here. Those winning endorsements are listed below.
* Tom Coburn for US Senate
* R.J. Harris for US House, 4th District
* Kevin Calvey for US House, 5th District
* Randy Brogdon for Governor
* Paul F. Nosak for Lieutenant Governor
* Scott Pruitt for Attorney General
* Owen Laughlin for State Treasurer
* Janet Barresi for State Superintendent of Public Instruction
* Mark Costello for Commissioner of Labor
* John Doak for Insurance Commissioner
* Anthony Sykes for the State Senate
* Norm Seaberg, Kent Hunt, Scott Martin, Randy Terrill, Sally Kern, Charles Key, Mike Reynolds, and Mike Christian for the State House
* David Tinsley for Cleveland County Assessor
* Jim Reynolds for Cleveland County Treasurer
In addition, the SRA delegates endorsed State Questions 746, 747, 748, 750, 751, 752, and 754. They voted against Questions 744 and 757.
Two resolutions were proposed, both of which passed unanimously. The first condemned the recent decision to ban 4th District Congressional candidate R.J. Harris from future Cleveland County Republican Party events. The second was a motion of no confidence in the county’s GOP chair and vice chair.
Winning 100% of the vote were candidate Anthony Sykes; State Questions 746, 750, 751; and the resolutions. Four other candidates earned over 93% of the vote: Randy Brogdon, Owen Laughlin, Janet Barresi, and Mark Costello.
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the day was the race for Lieutenant Governor. The field of five includes two state legislators and the 2006 GOP State Superintendent nominee. Yet the endorsement was won by Owasso businessman and political newcomer Paul F. Nosak, who reached the required 2/3 supermajority in the third round of voting. He would eventually receive 75% of the votes.
The Untold Story of the New Maps Tax
The new Maps Tax is a tax by the rich OKC Elite on the working people who make this city run. The Elite plan to build their Downtown Disneyland on the backs of the taxpayers. The Elite certainly don’t want to pay the same proportion of their income that they want to force on everyone else. They’re also not talking about the new taxes that will be forced on us to build a new $400 million County Jail. (More below on the jail.)
Consider this: Everyone knows that the sales tax is the most regressive tax there is. In OKC that works out to 8.375% on every dollar spent on all goods people buy. That’s $83.75 on every $1,000 you spend on food, clothing and other necessities. The new Maps Tax works out to about $10 a month on every resident of OKC. That’s every man, woman and child. $40 a month for a family of four.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
12 September 2009
FLETCHER, Okla. — 912Candidates.org has chosen Oklahoma City to host the first 9/12 Candidates Convention in late February 2010. Since March 23, 912Candidates.org has been operating as a Kitchen Table Organization (KTO) of volunteers scattered across several states dedicated to finding those who support the principles and values of the 9/12 Movement.
Today tens of thousands of citizens who identify themselves as “9/12ers” gathered from all 50 states to a rally in Washington D.C.. In the coming months these citizens will look to find representatives in government who reflect the principles and values of their constituents. The Nine Principles and Twelve values of the 9/12 Movement are:
Principles: 1. America is good. 2. I believe in God and He is the Center of my Life. 3. I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday. 4. The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government. 5. If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it. 6. I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results. 7. I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable. 8. It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion. 9. The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me. Values: 1. Honesty 2. Reverence 3. Hope 4. Thrift 5. Humility 6. Charity 7. Sincerity 8. Moderation 9. Hard Work 10. Courage 11. Personal Responsibility 12. Gratitude
Each 9/12 Candidate is required to pledge their sacred honor in representing their constituents and upholding these principles and values. More than 45 9/12 Candidates have stepped forward from 22 states running for local, state, and federal offices. The current collection of candidates includes Republicans, Democrats, and Independents. The attendance of these candidates at a political event will display to the American people the willingness of a new generation of representation to unify around basic principles and values.
The convention’s subject matter will be targeted to meet the needs of the various participating campaigns with events open to the public in the evening.
Members of the press will be welcome to cover the event and have access to the candidates in attendance.
912Candidates.org is now recruiting individuals willing to participate in organizing the convention. Applications should include a brief introduction, available time to work on the convention, and be emailed to info@912Candidates.org. There are no paid positions. The convention will be organized entirely by volunteers the head of which will be known as a “Quorum of Nine.”
The United States of America is a Republic founded on principles and values. Without these values our Republic will not survive. This convention will help return these values back to our government. In 1776 among a population of 2 million, 56 citizens pledged their sacred honor and stood up against the most powerful nation on earth to declare their independence. Among our current population good men and women are stepping forward, pledging their sacred honor, and committing to the principles and values that will restore this nation for posterity.
We should expect the people who represent us to represent the values that are important to us.

Lady Axiom has an excellent post rounding up many of the cases of media bias in the reporting about April 15th’s Tea Party events.
In addition to citing many examples of media bias, the Lady also points out the attempted hi-jacking or co-opting of any grassroots movement by political parties and organizations doesn’t mean the whole thing is a conspiracy.
I would add that I have seen the media bias locally. The only local newspaper, The Lincoln Journal Star, would at first not even mention the event we had scheduled for April 11. I asked the folks on the email list to let the Journal Star know they’d like to see coverage.
Just prior, one of the folks I’d heard from alerted me to the response she’d received from the City Desk when she’d inquried about lack of coverage. The Assistant Editor asked for information about the event as if she’d not heard about it before. In addition to my having sent a Press Release, I know of at least two other people who had sent the same thing.
Since they’d completely ignored the March 15th rally in front of Sen. Ben Nelson’s office, it didn’t surprise me that they’d act as if any related event information hadn’t been received.
Ultimately, the story was printed on page B5. The only good thing about the position of the blurb (can’t call it anything else) is that it was next to the obituary section.
When they reported on the event itself, they didn’t talk to any of the organizers and, most importantly, they cited “roughly 150” people attended. The Capitol Police Deputy assigned to security detail for our event estimated 350-400. The professional entertainer who counts heads for a living to compare to gate take-in used a counting procedure and estimated 375-400. He later backed that up with a close examination of photographs. The Journal Star has as of yet to correct their mistake.
Besides attempts to totally ignore the story and minimize the number of participants, the Journal Star is apparently removing comments they don’t like from the online version of the story. My own comment (the first one made there) and four others were removed that I know about.
Finally, while our April 11 event was placed in the “Local” section on Sunday, the April 15 event that was apparently sponsored by the Nebraska GOP and very well-funded by a wealthy businessman with less than questionable ethics was featured as a page one story today.
