Planning ahead and working to Restore the Republic in Oklahoma from county offices to the governor’s mansion.  We are working for state sovereignty, limited government, and free markets.  Oh and BTW we are and were against the bailouts and we will remember how elected officials voted – we should not have to lobby our representatives on clear constitutional matters like that!

Deadline for registering as a Republican in order to vote in the primary – May 31, 2010

VOTER REGISTRATION IN OKLAHOMA

ELIGIBILITY

A person who is eligible to register to vote must be:

• at least 18 years old
• a United States citizen
• a resident of Oklahoma

However, a person who has been:

• convicted of a felony may not register until a period of time equal to the original judgment and sentence has expired.
• adjudged to be an incapacitated person may not register.
• adjudged to be a partially incapacitated person prohibited from voting may not register.

HOW TO REGISTER

You must fill out a voter registration application form. Voter registration applications are available at your County Election Board, post offices, tag agencies, libraries and many other public locations. You will be offered a voter registration application when you get your driver’s license and when you apply for assistance at some government agencies. You also may download an application form

.The application form asks for:

• your name and address
• your political affiliation
• your birth date
• your driver’s license number
• the last four digits of your Social Security number (required if no driver’s license)

You must sign and date the oath printed on the form. When you sign the voter registration application form, you swear that you are eligible to register to vote.

CHANGING YOUR REGISTRATION

You may need to change your voter registration.

Changes you may need to make are:

• your address
• your name
• your political affiliation

You must fill out another voter registration application form to change your voter registration. You may change your registration at any time with one exception. You may not change your political affiliation during the period from June 1 through August 31, inclusive, in any even-numbered year. The last day on which you may change your political affiliation before the closed period is May 31; the first day on which you may change your political affiliation after the closed period is September 1.

SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATION

You may mail your voter registration application to the State Election Board. The card is already addressed, but you must add a first-class postage stamp. If you fill out your voter registration application form at a tag agency when you get your driver’s license or when you apply for assistance at a government agency, the agency will mail the form to the State Election Board for you.

VOTER IDENTIFICATION CARD

You do not become a registered voter until the county election board in the county where you reside has approved your application. When your application is approved, the county election board will mail a voter identification card to you. Your voter identification card lists your name, address, political affiliation and the polling place for your voting precinct. When you receive your voter identification card, look at it carefully and report any errors to the county election board immediately. Keep your voter identification card in a safe place and always take it with you when you go to vote.

If your voter registration application cannot be approved, you will receive a letter from the county election board. The letter will tell you why your application was not approved and explain the steps you need to take to become registered. You may be able to return the letter with some additional information, or you may need to fill out and send in another voter registration application form.

CLOSED PRIMARY SYSTEM

Oklahoma has a closed primary system. Only voters who are registered members of a recognized political party may vote for the party’s candidates in primary and runoff primary elections. Registered Independent voters may be eligible to vote in party’s primaries and runoff primaries if authorized by the party.

However, nonpartisan judicial offices, state questions and county questions often are included in primary elections. All registered voters, including Independents, are entitled to receive those ballots. At general elections, all voters receive the same ballot and may vote for any candidate or question on the ballot.

CANCELLED REGISTRATION

In most cases, voter registration is permanent. However, some voter registrations are canceled.

The county election board may cancel a registration:

• if the voter dies
• if the voter is convicted of a felony
• If the voter is adjudged to be an incapacitated person
• if the voter moves and registers again in another county or in another state
• if the voter asks the county election board in a written, notarized statement to cancel the registration
• if the voter does not respond to correspondence from the county election board and does not vote for more than four years

WHEN TO REGISTER

You may submit your voter registration application form at any time. However, voter identification cards cannot be issued during the 24 days prior to an election. If your registration application is received by the county election board during the 24 days before an election, you will not receive your voter identification card until after the election.

If you will become 18 during the 60 days before an election, you may apply for voter registration between 25 and 60 days before the election.

Never let a clearly unconstitutional bill hit the floor.

If anything in the bill is bad or false – the whole bill should be declined right?!  If it is wrong – it is just plain wrong.  If any piece of the bill is unconstitutional – just #sayNO.  Easy not rocket science at all!

PS  Don’t sell your soul for $10 or $10M or $10B.  Once we have established that you are for sale – then you are just haggling over price.  So just say NO because health care is not a function of federal government.  The health care bill is unconstitutional from the get go and if you do vote for it you should get a pink slip from the people very soon and with good reason.

Grassroots in Nebraska

67% of Nebraskans are opposed to the health care bill. But Senator Ben Nelson sold his vote for untold millions in Medicaid funding and benefits to insurance and drug companies. Nelson sold out all Nebraska and Americans–who’ll be forced to buy health insurance or face fines and jail sentences.

• Governor Heineman released a public letter to Sen. Nelson on Wednesday listing reasons why Nelson should oppose the health care bill.

• Yesterday, Senator Nelson said he cannot support the bill as written, largely due to its lack of restrictions on abortion funding and he issued a response to Gov. Heineman saying that he had entered an amendment to the bill that allows states to opt-out of the health care plan.

• Multiple sources inside Congress have stated that Senator Nelson was threatened by Democratic leadership that should he fail to vote the health care bill forward, Nebraska’s Offut Air Base would be added to the BRAC list (Base Realignment and Closure List). (Further, there have been reports that Sen. Nelson was offered $500 million in earmarks should he support the bill, although it is more difficult to trace sources on this assertion.)

Advice to Nebraskans from Senator David Vitter on influencing Sen. Nelson

On Thursday, I was invited to participate in a private call with Senator David Vitter (LA) and other grassroots organizers from several states to get some insight from him regarding the status of the health care bill and to clarify comments he had made at a recent town hall organized by the Tea Party of Louisiana and Baton Rouge Tea Party that indicated action from all of us could have impact on the outcome of the health care bill vote.

On yesterday’s call, I was able to have a direct discussion with Senator Vitter regarding Senator Nelson’s key role and to clarify in specific terms what he believed would have potential impact on his vote.

Senator Vitter noted in general terms:

• Senate Democrats and House leadership are counting on the American people’s attention being on Christmas, not on the bill, that is why they are determined to force a vote prior to Christmas. (Other information indicates the vote would occur ON Christmas Eve.)

• He is an executive member of the Senate Republican Steering Committee (also includes Sens. DeMint, Coburn, Sessions) are meeting daily, their staff hourly, to review current status and their procedural options to block the vote.

• Most Senators are not being allowed to see actual current bill, and it has changed several times. The KEY QUESTION is: What IS the new bill?

Vitter specifically explained in regards to Sen. Nelson and Nebraska:

• Senator Nelson’s vote is THE ABSOLUTELY KEY VOTE and pressure from within Nebraska may well impact his next steps.

• A large public rally with media coverage would be more effective than phone calls, emails, and faxes.

• National media attention on some activity in Nebraska could be effective.

• Any of these actions MUST occur in the next few days to have impact on a potential vote just before Christmas.

I learned from Linda in our group that Sen. Mike Johanns wrote a letter that 20 other Republican Senators signed, calling for an investigation of the matter. The Omaha World Herald had a story regarding this, but for some reason pulled it off of their site.

Senator Vitter also noted:
Another important and wavering Senator was Jim Webb of Virginia. Sen. Webb has been voting with the Republicans on key issues associated with the bill.

Following the call with Senator Vitter, those who participated held a separate conference call. Based on what the Senator advised, the conclusion of all on the call was that taking some action here in Nebraska is NECESSARY regardless of short notice, weather, amount of work, or timing (Christmas). Recognizing that fact, the people from the other states offered to help. (See below)

As a result arrangements are being made for the following -

Taking ALL factors into consideration, here’s what’s being worked on (More detailed information will be on the way)

I understand the challenge involved in carrying out a rally at this point – but I feel it is literally a duty to the country to do whatever we can here in Nebraska.

I am asking for anyone who is willing to help make this a success to contact me and I will  “plug you in” to doing something.

The people who were on the call with Senator Vitter not only believed something should be done in Nebraska, they thought we should encourage everyone possible to join us in Lincoln.

So…the “plan” is…

1) Let all their membership know about the rally and urge whoever is willing and able to come to join us in Lincoln on Tuesday. Some will be looking into arranging charter buses.

2) Any of the organizers who have the ability to do so will try to make arrangements to come to Lincoln

3) They will ask for donations to help us pay for an abbreviated ad campaign.

WE ARE WORKING ON RUNNING TV AND RADIO ADS ON MONDAY ABOUT THE RALLY AND THAT TAKES MONEY

There will be a donate button added to the Grassroots in Nebraska website for this purpose (note: it will be removed after this event is over)

4) All involved will help work their connections with national media to get some coverage of the event. Among these connections include Fox News’ shows with Neil Cavuto and Greta Van Sustern, Fox Business Network, and NPR.
