$12.00 Delegate and Guest Fee

Registration starts at 8:00 AM and Convention begins at 9:00 AM; $12 per person; also there will be a $5 per vote straw poll, with results announced during the Convention;  Keynote speakers are Gov. Instant Run-Off Voting Method

Just in case the topic of ‘instant run-off’ voting comes up — it really isn’t a great method to use!  In general, when in doubt say No and best to appeal to fairness issues if necessary at a convention.  Always protect the ‘one sheep’ to have a voice.  We can all live with a fair vote, but have difficulty swallowing being tricked or abused — so just don’t do it or let it  be done to others!

Sandra Crosnoe was a part of the minority report for the rules adopted in 2008.  At that time, we did not know enough about the Instant Runoff method of voting to object to its’ use.  After that convention Amanda Teegarden did some additional research on the voting methods and recently documented the following thoughts:

My recommendation is that this voting method not be used for the 2012 District Convention for the following reasons: There are many different voting methods out there and which one a group choses can and does change the outcome of the election. The simplest and best method is plurality voting – the person with the most votes wins.  Followed by a second round of voting, etc. “Voting methods” is a discipline akin to gaming – when one begins to examine voting methods one ends up examining gaming methods. Voting should be easy for the common man to understand.  Instant runoff voting is not easy to understand or explain. A method that takes a computer science or engineering degree to appreciate should not be used. In 2008, a small slip of paper was found on the floor.  This list contained 7 names – all seven of those named won the delegate election.   This raises serious red flags about the of “strategic” ranking to select the delegates, known to only a segment of those present.  There were at about 35 delegates, many with a large number of supporters present, who did not make the final cut.  But the 7 names on the little slip of paper all won. Instant runoff voting is a highly controversial method of voting – Minnesota tried to outlaw it once people figured out what could be done with it. What the people want is for the entire convention process to be transparent, open and fair, and for all the participants to play by the rules.  Let the best candidate win – and I don’t mean the best at cheating. Oklahoma State Convention

May 11-12 at the Embassy Suites in Norman Oklahoma

(Oklahoma City)- Oklahoma Republican Party Chairman Matt Pinnell today announced the slate of speakers for the 2012 OKGOP State Convention. The 2012 State Convention will take place May 11th and 12th at the Embassy Suites in Norman, OK. The State Convention theme will be ‘Red State Ready’.

The keynote speaker for the Convention Gala (Friday evening, May 11th) will be Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal. Governor Jindal was sworn in as Governor of Louisiana on January 14, 2008 – becoming the first Indian-American Governor in American history and was reelected overwhelmingly in 2011. Recognized as a rising star in the Republican Party, Governor Jindal has been ranked one of the nation’s most popular governors with an approval rating of over 75%.
